Head 2 Head: STAGG GAR20 VS MARSHALL MG30DFX

First, the STAGG comes in 20, 40 and 60 watts. Let's use the 20 Watts for our comparison as it goes head to head with the volume of a 30 Watt Marshall Solid state.

Let's pit the Stagg GAR20 with the Marshall MG30DFX.

The Marshall is a 30 Watt amp with digital effects. (PHP 14,700 SRP @ JB Music)

The STAGG GAR20 is a 20 Watt amp with Spring Reverb (PHP 4,995 SP @ TMS)

Both have 2 channels, a Clean and Drive Channel, both of which can be used by pressing the switches on the amp or via an external footswitch (Sold Separately)

Now, as decent as the drive channel of the marshall is (decent for rhythm parts only), usually nobody uses the dirt channel of these amps. they usually put a Drive pedal in front of the amps for dirt needs. so let's focus on the clean channel.

VERSUS MODE:

Speaker Size:
The Marshall is equipped with a 10" Speaker. The STAGG 20 is equipped with an 8" Speaker. generally speaking, the larger the speaker, the better it handles most frequencies. so the Marshall wins it here. Marshall - 1 || Stagg - 0

Volume:
The Stagg was head to head with the marshall in terms of volume. Despite having a smaller speaker size, the Stagg was able to handle loud volumes. The Marshall was loud as well. I'll call this a Tie.
Marshall - 2 || Stagg - 1

Pedal-friendliness:
The Stagg sounds very flat as compared to the Marshall. The Marshall has a dark sounding character that some might like, and some hate. Pedal friendliness-wise, The Stagg took in dirt pedals better as compared to the Marshall. very transparent sounding. This goes to the Stagg.
Marshall - 2 || Stagg - 2

Convenience:
The Stagg is smaller and lighter with its built in reverb, plus footswitch capabilities and CD in inputs. it also has a SPEAKER Out rated for 4Ohm Cabinits. The Marshall has a CD and Footswitch input and Built in effects (Chorus, Delay, Reverb). The Marshall is heavier and has no extension cab provision. I'm calling this a Tie.
Marshall - 3 || Stagg - 3

Durability:
I've had the Stagg for around 6 years, constantly bringing it out of the house for jams and noodling. So far no issues encountered. the Marshall, was with Jarvin for 3 years and now has experienced the issue among MG30 users where the output transformer can no longer handle loud volumes. I'll give this to the Stagg.
Marshall - 3 || Stagg - 4

Price:
The Stagg goes for PHP 4,995, goes for as low as PHP 3,750 during Sale Seasons. The Marshall goes for PHP 14,700, goes for as low as PHP 11,025 during sale seasons. Do the Math. This goes to the Stagg.
Marshall - 3 || Stagg - 5.

Biases aside, I strongly recommend Stagg Products. the only letdown is that STAGGS have virtually no resale value. so, once you get one, you might as well keep it. but as far as value for money is concerned, it is definitely a keeper.
